Hear from Gabe Margasak, Video/Creative Services, South Florida Water Management District about how the LiveU800 dramatically improved their live-streaming capabilities in the video below.

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) is a regional governmental agency that manages the water resources in the southern half of the state, covering 16 counties from Orlando to the Florida Keys. The District is responsible for Everglades restoration, the largest ecosystem restoration effort in the world. In addition, it manages thousands of miles of flood control infrastructure and ensures the water supply for millions of Floridians.

SFWMD is committed to providing easy access to information and digital assets. These assets include live streams of public events and meetings, photos and videos of Everglades restoration projects, interviews with District officials and scientists, and much more.

Working with Midtown Video, a LiveU certified vendor, SFWMD was able to rapidly evolve their capabilities – dramatically improving the speed and performance of their live stream systems. The challenge of having to operate deep in the Everglades where cell signals are weak called for a professional system. Midtown Video’s director of operations and sales engineer, Fernando Iglesias integrated the LiveU800 system into their production van in order to process simultaneous feeds from cameras, drones and diverse audio feeds.

The LU800 delivers mission-critical transmission for live productions in native 5G using multiple inputs. By bonding 14 connections with up to eight 5G/4G internal dual SIM modems, the LU800 supports upload speeds up to 70Mbps.

Gabe Margasak, Head of Video/Creative services at SFWMD says “We’ve had big events with over 200 people – deep in the Everglades. We have the photos and the videos done within an hour of the event being over. People are on their way home going, “Hey, I was just there. Now I have the video. Now I have the photos. Now I have everything I need to talk about this accomplishment that’s been done on behalf of the citizens of South Florida. It’s really been a game-changer for us.”

In recent years there has been increasing demand for live stream video and rapid distribution of media to the press and other agencies. The media office started down this path with standard consumer-grade tools but rapidly found the particular demands of their organization far outstripped the capabilities of simply streaming video from a cell phone. Their search for a robust and stable solution to streaming and distribution of media at high-quality, high-speed, and with zero failure led them directly to LiveU.
