Upgrading Training and Collaboration in a Mission-Driven Environment
Law enforcement training environments are built on precision, discipline, and the ability to communicate clearly under pressure. Every lesson and exercise supports a greater purpose—protecting communities and preparing officers for the complex, real-world challenges they face
When a state law enforcement agency sought to modernize its primary training facility, it turned to Midtown Video for an advanced audio-visual system that would bring its classrooms and meeting spaces into the 21st century.
The goal was clear: design and build a dependable, easy-to-use solution that supports interactive training, hybrid collaboration, and high-quality audio and video in a space built for security, focus, and teamwork.

The Goal
The agency’s training program encompasses a comprehensive range of essential skills, including defensive tactics, emergency driving, first aid, and crisis intervention, alongside classroom-based instruction on legal procedures, ethics, and report writing. The new training room needed to accommodate all of it.
The system had to support live instruction, facilitate high-quality video conferencing between two key facilities, and allow instructors to share content wirelessly. Trainers also wanted flexible microphone options that allowed them and guest speakers to move freely throughout the room while maintaining clear, consistent sound in-person and over remote sessions.
Reliability and security were non-negotiable. The new AV infrastructure had to deliver high-quality visuals, easy control, and reliable communication while operating on a secure network and integrating seamlessly into the agency’s existing infrastructure.
The Challenge
Law enforcement environments present a unique set of challenges for AV integration. Systems must maintain secure connections, withstand daily use, and perform flawlessly under pressure.
Midtown Video’s team faced an additional layer of complexity: integrating newly released hardware and firmware across several platforms while keeping every component synchronized.
The QSC processing platform and Kramer video encoders had to work in perfect harmony. The team also needed to ensure that every component, including microphones, cameras, displays, and controllers, was perfectly aligned in terms of performance and timing for instructors and trainees alike.
This project required continuous testing and tight coordination between field installers and programmers. Our deep understanding of how each device operates within the larger network was essential to the success of this particular training room upgrade.
Midtown Video’s Exceptional Solution
Midtown Video designed and implemented a complete digital video and audio system that transformed the space into a flexible, professional-grade training environment that will withstand the test of time.
- Display and Video Distribution: Two Absen 108” AIO X Series LED displays serve as the primary visual focus at the front of the room, delivering bright, high-resolution images for presentations and video calls.
Mid-room, two LG 55” monitors provide secondary viewing angles, improving visibility for every participant. An additional 86” LG monitor paired with a Neat Bar Pro supports high-quality video conferencing. Kramer encoders and decoders handle video distribution across all displays, maintaining consistent and lag-free image quality.
- Camera and Control: Two QSC PTZ cameras capture clear views of instructors and trainees, automatically switching based on the presenter’s location. A 10.1” QSC touchscreen controller gives users intuitive command of the entire system.
- Audio and Microphones: Two Shure ceiling array microphones—one positioned at the front and one at the rear of the room—capture speech evenly throughout the space. A wireless mic system with both handheld and bodypack transmitters enables instructors to lead practical sessions, such as de-escalation role-plays or physical readiness demonstrations, without worrying about sound coverage.
Overcoming the Complexities of a Training Room Upgrade
Bringing newly released technology together always involves a few growing pains, but Midtown’s team met each challenge with expertise and determination.
Midtown’s programming team worked daily to synchronize the QSC system with Kramer’s latest encoders and decoders, ensuring smooth communication between devices. Collaboration between engineering and installation crews was key. Through extensive testing and firmware alignment, our team optimized all audio and video sources until the system performed with absolute reliability.
We’re Proud of the Result
The new system exceeds expectations, and we’re proud of it. Instructors can move freely throughout the room, knowing their voices will be heard clearly in person and across remote facilities. Presentations, training sessions, and collaborative meetings, whether it’s a legal workshop, technical demonstration, or officer wellness class, run smoothly and efficiently.
Agency leadership and end-users have praised the intuitive operation and enhanced experience compared to older systems. The space now supports mission-critical training and communication functions with confidence and clarity, which is precisely what a law enforcement environment demands.
For Midtown Video, the project reflects our ongoing commitment to delivering “Totally Awesome Systems” that perform where it matters most.
